We've come a long way since the end of last semester! Our communications manager, Jade Jackson, and some of the scope team have been meeting with our in country contact, Christina, pretty regularly. We finally decided, with Christina's help and the community's approval, that we will build the Cedro Galan community a flush-toilet and septic system. Since we came to that decision, design and budget work have taken off. We are meeting with our technical advisor, Justin, regularly and we are all relieved things are finally moving along. The PUC administrators are starting to hound us for paperwork and payments, so fundraising is on everyone's mind. We are starting to bring in donations from our friends and family, and are looking to bring in donations from companies. We want to have our project fully funded by the beginning of March, a fairly intimidating goal. We are optimistic though!
And some other big news: we nailed down our travel dates! Barring catastrophe and lack of funding (which is almost the same thing if you think about it), our team will travel to Managua, Nicaragua on May 20th and return on June 3rd. Woohoo!
